Our commitments

Since FDJ®’s creation, social responsibility has been central to its business model.

Responsible Gaming – "Stay in control of the game"

FDJ’s Responsible Gaming policy goes beyond its legal obligations. Operating lotteries and sports betting in points of sale in a monopoly goes hand in hand with a general interest role: prevention of underage gambling and the fight against the addiction, fraud and money laundering. In the interests of safeguarding public order and the social order, FDJ is tasked with directing public demand for gaming and preventing the potentially negative effects of gambling.

As such, each game is evaluated by a committee comprising several external experts before it is marketed. In addition, all distributors are trained and regularly checked on their respect for the Responsible Gaming criteria, part of their remuneration being directly dependent on this factor. The arsenal of measures to protect players, both in points of sale and online, is constantly being reinforced. FDJ has implemented tools for players, like Playscan, to evaluate their gambling habits and cap their spending. Lastly, FDJ airs campaigns dedicated to Responsible Gaming whenever it runs an advertising campaign for instant games or sports betting. This means that FDJ devotes at least 10% of its overall television advertising spendings to the promotion of Responsible Gaming.

FDJ has obtained the highest scores for its Responsible Gaming policy from professional federations – European Lotteries and World Lotteries Association – and is rated A1 by Vigeo[1] for its non-financial performance as a whole.

For over 30 years, FDJ has been committed to promoting French sport

As a sports sponsor, it has supported more than 400 top athletes, who won 162 Olympic and Paralympic medals, with its “Challenge” programme. It has just launched the “FDJ Sport Factory”, a support programme for top athletes for the 2022 and 2024 Olympics and Paralympics.

The 24 men and women athletes selected by December 2019 will benefit from personalised monitoring to assist them in their career management and the preparation of their post-competition conversion, notably through partnerships with leading schools.

The Group has been co-sponsor of the Groupama-FDJ cycling team since 1997, and sponsor of the FDJ-Nouvelle-Aquitaine-Futuroscope women’s cycling team since 2016. FDJ is also a partner of sports federations (French Basketball Federation, French Handball Federation).

FDJ contributes to the preservation of heritage in peril

In 2018, the Mission Patrimoine games allowed FDJ to raise nearly €22 million for the French Heritage Foundation as part of the “Mission Bern”.
In 2019, FDJ has set itself the goal of transferring between €25 million and €30 million to help safeguard 121 sites in peril, including 18 emblematic sites spread across France. Lastly, the FDJ Corporate Foundation is a sponsor of the Heritage Foundation and its job programme Patrimoine-Emploi.

FDJ acts to reduce its environmental impact

cycliste
Faced with the challenges of global warming and the increasing deterioration of the environment, FDJ aims to reduce its environmental impact and contribute to the ecological transition. Since 2008, the company has been assessing its overall carbon footprint in line with the methodology set by ADEME (French Agency for Development and Energy Management). FDJ reduced its carbon emissions by 8% between 2007 and 2017, during a period of strong growth in activity. By way of illustration, since 2012 all gaming materials and scratch cards have been printed on paper from sustainably managed forests (FSC). The heat generated by FDJ’s data centres is recovered to heat its premises in Vitrolles.

In 2019, FDJ decided to join the international Science Based Targets (SBT) initiative in order to validate the trajectory of its carbon emissions, in line with the international objectives set under the 2015 Paris Agreement.

FDJ aims to:

  • Reduce its carbon emissions by 20% between 2017 and 2025
  • Achieve carbon neutrality by 2019, offsetting any emissions that could not be avoided. This offsetting will be achieved through the financing of certified international carbon emission reduction projects (Gold Standard and/or VCS – Verified Carbon Standard) for their reliability, particularly those accredited by the UN.
